The Recording Arts Bachelor of Science at Full Sail University prepares students for a career in audio engineering and production. Full Sail University began in 1979 as a recording school, and since then, developments in the recording industry have created new opportunities to build upon the university’s foundational recording curriculum. Beyond just teaching students how to capture an artist’s sound in the studio, Full Sail University’s Recording Arts curriculum encompasses recording, live music production, and audio postproduction for film, television, and video games. Students work with industry-standard tools, including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and large-format consoles such as SSL and Neve, along with AI-assisted tools such as iZotope RX. From acoustic principles, amplification technology, and signal flow to interactive audio, sequencing techniques, and sound-effect design, this program covers the many different procedures, formats, and applications found across the recording arts. By working with the same gear found in professional industry-standard studios, students will gain the confidence and skills needed to progress within these environments after graduation. As the field increasingly adopts AI-assisted tools, students will learn to apply them as a complement to their individual creative and technical audio judgment. Graduates will exit with a portfolio including a demo reel of sound for visual media, studio recordings, and mixes assembled to professional standards and suitable for presentation to employers and clients.
The goal of the Recording Arts Bachelor of Science degree program is to provide students with the focused skills and extensive knowledge of audio engineering needed to qualify for entry-level industry positions across the audio industries. Graduates will be equipped to pursue roles such as recording engineers, mix engineers, post-production engineers, game audio specialists, digital audio workstation operators and programmers, music/effects/dialogue editors, and live-production engineers. Across the curriculum, students build core technical competencies, including recording, critical listening, mixing, sound design, mastering, vocal production, and audio postproduction, and apply these skills through hands-on project-based work. Students will also develop communication and critical-thinking skills through courses in physical science, professional writing, critical listening, and career planning and entrepreneurship strategies. Students will build fluency with current recording arts tools and workflows, including AI-assisted tools applied as a support to their creative and technical audio judgment.
