The Music Business Bachelor of Science at Full Sail University prepares students to pursue career opportunities in the business of music, applying skills in strategy, marketing, management, entrepreneurship, technology, and audience engagement across the areas of artist development, artist management, music marketing, publishing, live events, streaming, and emerging music ventures. The program curriculum coaches students to serve in music business capacities working with major record labels, online streaming sites, music rights organizations, music publishers, booking agencies, concert promoters, and artist management firms by cultivating their skill development in authentic industry scenarios. Being effective in the music-business arena means understanding a range of roles and endeavors, from booking tours to tracking the media strategy underpinning an artist's goals. To maximize an artist’s potential, all the roles in the music industry need to work together. The program's curriculum allows students to not only focus on what they do best but also ensure that their contributions to the cause are as effective as possible. Students work with industry-standard tools, including Microsoft Excel and Chartmetric, along with AI-assisted tools such as Microsoft Copilot, Suno, Udio, NotebookLM, Canva, ChatGPT, Notion AI, Claude, and Adobe Firefly.
Courses span music-specific business subjects such as artist management, music copyright and publishing, concert management and touring, and music evaluation for artists and repertoire, as well as general business concepts such as finance, leadership, marketing, and entrepreneurship. Additional focus is placed on communication skills, physical science, professional writing, and career education and planning. As the music industry continues to evolve through AI-assisted tools, data-informed workflows, and new strategic approaches, students will learn to apply technology in ways that strengthen business judgment, ethical decision-making, creative strategy, and professional communication. Graduates' portfolios will comprise a collection of music-business strategy projects, marketing assets, rights-focused work, and project-based creative materials developed to professional standards and primed for presentation to employers, clients, and industry collaborators.
The goal of the Music Business Bachelor of Science degree program is to provide the focused knowledge and understanding of essential business and management skills to prepare graduates to pursue entry-level industry positions in recording, artist management, concert management, music publishing, music marketing, music supervision, retail, and distribution. Students will build core music business competencies in music business management, copyright and publishing, rights and royalties, artist development, marketing, distribution, data analysis, fan engagement, and entrepreneurship, applying these skills through hands-on, project-based work that reflects industry practices. Graduates' portfolios will enable them to showcase their abilities on seeking roles with record labels, music publishers, artist-management firms, concert promoters, booking agencies, and music-technology companies. Students also build fluency with current music business tools and workflows, including AI-assisted tools applied as a support to their individual business judgment.
