The Music Production Bachelor of Science at Full Sail University prepares students for a variety of career paths in the realm of music creation and production, whether entering as a novice or experienced musician. The curriculum of the program explores digital audio principles, digital workstation technology, and digital signal flow, progressing to train students in advanced audio production and engineering techniques. Critical coursework covers music theory, composition, and music history as well as professional collaboration methods, providing students with the many different processes and perspectives important to music producers. Students work with industry-standard tools, including Pro Tools, Ableton Live, and Logic Pro, along with learning AI composition techniques via the Session Player features in Logic Pro. Through coursework utilizing a personal production studio, students will gain the confidence and skills to build their careers in a variety of music production environments after graduation. The program also cultivates students' communication and critical-thinking skills through courses in physics, cultural studies, professional writing, and career planning and entrepreneurship strategies. As the field increasingly adopts AI-assisted tools, students will learn to apply them as a support to their creative and technical audio judgment. Graduates will exit with a portfolio of produced and mixed music, assembled to professional standards and primed for presentation to employers and clients.
The goal of the Music Production Bachelor program is to provide students the focused knowledge and understanding of music production technology and concepts needed to qualify for entry-level industry positions across the audio and entertainment industries. Graduates will be equipped to pursue roles such as multimedia music composers and producers, audio and sound-effects technicians, music supervisors, music editors, project-studio engineers, beat programmers, music arrangers, songwriters, digital-music recording engineers, postproduction audio engineers, and MIDI/digital audio workstation operators and programmers. Across the curriculum, students will build core technical competencies, including recording, music sequencing, audio-workstation production, arrangement, and mixing, and will apply these skills through hands-on, project-based work. In addition to developing technical proficiency and creative development, courses will also cultivate students' critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that contribute to lifelong learning and sustaining an enduring professional career. Students will also build fluency with contemporary music production tools and workflows, including AI-assisted technologies applied as a support to their creative and technical audio judgment.
