The Film Bachelor of Science degree program at Full Sail University prepares students for a career in the film industry through immersive, hands-on production experience. Built around real-world industry workflows, the curriculum guides students through every stage of filmmaking—from concept and preproduction to postproduction—while outlining the roles and responsibilities of each department on a professional film set. Students will have the opportunity to focus on their area of interest, including writing, directing, producing, cinematography, editing, production design, and sound. Coursework provides practical experience writing scripts, storyboarding, casting actors, building sets, creating practical and visual effects, operating professional cinema camera systems, and completing productions of increasing complexity on Full Sail's soundstages, studio backlot, and virtual production studio as well as on location throughout Central Florida.
Beyond narrative filmmaking, students will explore photography, broadcast production, documentary filmmaking, and emerging media formats. Coursework also covers production budgeting, lighting, communication, business principles, networking, and personal finance to help prepare for a successful creative career. Throughout the program, students will work with industry-standard tools, including film and digital cinema cameras (16mm, 35mm, HD, 2K, 4K, 6K, and 12K), professional postproduction software such as Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve, along with AI-assisted creative tools that support modern production workflows. Students will learn how to integrate AI into professional workflows as a tool that enhances creative and editorial decision-making, never as a replacement for it. Graduates will exit with a professional portfolio and demo reel that showcases the filmmaking abilities they have developed, primed for use in pursuing opportunities across the film and media industries.
The goal of the Film Bachelor of Science degree is to provide students the knowledge, technical skills, and creative foundation needed to pursue entry-level positions in the film, television, and media industries. Roles can span the realms of independent filmmaking, camera operation, production assistance, editing, sound design, assistant directing, unit production management, art direction, lighting, dialogue editing, and a variety of other production and postproduction stations. Through hands-on, crew-based productions, students will develop core competencies in screenwriting, directing, cinematography, lighting, production sound, production design, editing, postproduction, virtual production, and AI-assisted workflows that support creative and editorial decision-making. Students will also develop the collaborative and team-building skills essential to success in the film industry while also gaining tactics to present their creative work in a professional manner. Courses in the program will strengthen students' critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities that contribute to lifelong learning and sustaining a long and adaptable career in the entertainment and media industries.
