The Creative Writing Bachelor of Fine Arts at Full Sail University prepares students for a career in the creative writing industries, honing their story-writing abilities as well as training them in the transmedia approach that is necessary across today’s entertainment industry. As new distribution channels for media emerge in the entertainment industry, there is an increasing demand for creative writers who can extend a compelling story across multiple platforms. Whether the final delivery outlet is a movie theater, television screen, computer monitor, game console, website, or mobile device, students will learn to develop and tailor compelling and well-crafted stories that will captivate consumers across platforms. Courses focus on character creation and development, screenwriting, script analysis, criticism, and editing. Students will work with industry-standard tools, including Final Draft and the Adobe Creative Cloud, along with AI-assisted tools such as Meta, Adobe Firefly, ElevenLabs, Suno, and ChatGPT for supplying assets to complement their creative writing pursuits. In addition to learning effective methods and relevant practices for utilizing digital tools, students will explore multiple literary genres along with techniques for writing for different audiences and mediums. Courses will also cultivate students' leadership, project-management, and research skills. Students will learn and practice how to revise their work and collaborate with others to boost their creative efforts. As the field increasingly adopts AI-assisted tools, students will learn to apply them as a support to their editorial and creative judgment. Graduates will exit with a portfolio of original written work for multiple outlets, assembled to professional standards and primed for presentation to employers and clients.
The objective of the Creative Writing Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program is to provide students with a focused knowledge and clear understanding of visual storytelling, narrative structures, literary genres, multimedia terms and delivery methods, character creation and development, screenwriting, script analysis, criticism, and editing for a variety of niches and distribution methods in the entertainment and media industries. Across the curriculum, students will build core technical competencies, including story development, screenwriting, episodic and serial writing, gaming and transmedia storytelling, and apply these skills through hands-on project-based work. This program equips students with editorial skills, enhances their ability to create compelling stories and writing elements, and enables them to pursue careers in creating writing and media content creation. The Creative Writing Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program will also further strengthen the leadership, project-management, and research skills necessary for the development and execution of creative projects. Completion of the program will enable graduates to take full advantage of today’s demand for creatives and their unique perspectives. Students will also build fluency with current creative tools and workflows, including AI-assisted tools applied as a support to their editorial and creative judgment, never a replacement for it.
