Overview

The Visual Design undergraduate certificate at Full Sail University provides students with a foundation in visual communication and design. The ability to communicate visually is a critical requirement of nearly every contemporary industry, where graphics and typography convey ideas, present concepts, and elevate products across all types of media. Through project-based learning, students explore design principles, typography, color, composition, and visual problem-solving while developing the skills needed to communicate ideas across a variety of media and formats.

Students build an understanding of how visual choices influence perception, communicate meaning, and support effective communication. Coursework introduces the language of design and the principles that guide the creation of engaging visual experiences while encouraging creative exploration and thoughtful design decision-making. Using industry-standard design tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop alongside AI-assisted tools such as Adobe Firefly and other contemporary technologies, students will strengthen their technical abilities while developing their communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. As AI-assisted tools continue to influence creative industries, students will learn to evaluate and apply them as a complement to their creative work, using technology in conjunction with individual creativity and design development.

Students will complete the certificate with a portfolio of work showcasing their understanding of design principles, typography, color, layout, and visual communication to serve as a foundation for continued study in graphic design, digital arts and design, and related creative disciplines.
