The Sportscasting Bachelor of Science curriculum at Full Sail University presents how new communication technologies are altering the way audiences consume content. By promoting responsiveness and distinction as a sportscaster, this degree equips students to grow within this arena and connect with modern sports fans. Sports media companies have extended to reach their audiences through a wider array of communication platforms—social, mobile, digital, and virtual. Sports audiences that used to share only a few traditional platforms are more varied and specific across the available methods for consuming media. Because of this expansive landscape of the sports industry, creative professionals are in growing demand who understand various communication technologies and the communities who utilize them. Students in this program work with industry-standard tools including Adobe Premiere Pro and broadcast production tools like Open Broadcast Software (OBS), along with AI-assisted tools such as Adobe Firefly.

The evolving demands of the sports-content presentation field require a firm grasp of the core elements of great storytelling. These elements remain applicable to sports media across the board, whether it is among twenty-first-century platforms such as virtual reality experiences, digital content creation (including YouTube Channel content), podcasts, and remote production or traditional platforms such as radio and television. Students will explore the fundamentals of audience analysis, multimedia storytelling, studio production, and broadcasting for advanced technology. The curriculum also provides practical opportunities to develop each student's personal style in processing, creating, and delivering content. As the field increasingly adopts AI-assisted tools, students will learn to apply them as a support to their on-air presence and editorial judgment. The project-based curriculum will culminate with the creation and production of a demo reel of sportscasting and broadcast work, assembled to professional standards and suitable for presentation to employers and clients.

Objective
Bachelor's Objective  

The central goal of the Sportscasting Bachelor of Science degree program is to provide a comprehensive grasp of the core elements of sports and media storytelling. Across the curriculum, students build core technical competencies in broadcast writing, sports production, on-air vocal performance, interviewing, live reporting, studio anchoring, videography, editing, and remote production and apply these skills through hands-on project-based work. Students will develop refined skills in sports communication and sports journalism for presenting content through various media platforms. The degree program outlines the traits that have defined successful sportscasters and leaders throughout the radio, television, and digital eras of sports presentation and translates these characteristics for sportscasters operating amid new and emerging technologies and communication channels. Students will learn the fundamentals of traditional sports storytelling, such as clear writing and vocal communication, as well as more advanced content-creation and studio-production techniques. Completing this program will enable graduates to pursue career opportunities in sports media and content creation, including on-air and production positions for traditional news networks, digital media (including YouTube and podcasts), and developing platforms such as virtual reality productions. Students will also build fluency with current sportscasting tools and workflows, including AI-assisted technologies applied as a support to their on-air presence and editorial judgment.
