The Game Development Bachelor of Science program at Full Sail University is designed to provide students the programming skills and theory needed to compete in the world of game development. Students begin by learning the details of a game development cycle from preproduction to finished product and progress to create simple games that aid in enhancing their programming and design skills. Intermediate courses such as Computer Graphics, Computer Architecture, Artificial Intelligence, and Software Engineering train students in more complex and detailed tasks. Students work with industry-standard tools, including Microsoft Visual Studio, Unreal Engine, C++, Vulkan, DirectX, and Blender along with AI-assisted tools such as Unity Muse. Students will apply their knowledge gained to architect, develop, and produce a complete and playable game from start to finish. In addition to gaining firsthand experience with the game development process, additional courses focus on probability, digital logic, and game architecture. As the field increasingly adopts AI-assisted tools, students will learn to apply them as a support to their technical and engineering judgment. Graduates will enter the industry with a portfolio of playable game projects, assembled to professional standards and suitable for presentation to employers and clients.
The goal of the Game Development Bachelor of Science degree program is to provide students with the focused knowledge and understanding of game development to pursue entry-level industry positions as game programmers, tool builders, network programmers, artificial-intelligence programmers, engine builders, and interface programmers. Across the curriculum, students will build core technical competencies, including programming, data structures and algorithms, computer graphics, engine development, and game software engineering and will apply these skills through hands-on, project-based work. Completing this degree program will enhance students' ability to create program code for 3-D graphic display, multiplayer gaming, artificially intelligent opponents, and real-time virtual environments. Additional skills developed in this program include the proper presentation of game documentation as well as the math and physics required to model a realistic game world. Courses also foster students' critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that contribute to lifelong learning and sustaining an enduring career. Students also build fluency with current game development tools and workflows, including AI-assisted tools applied as a support to their technical and engineering process.
