Overview

In the Film Production Master of Fine Arts degree program at Full Sail University, students develop advanced artistic, technical, professional and academic expertise in filmmaking and visual storytelling. The program prepares aspiring filmmakers to conceive, develop, produce, direct, edit, package, and present professional film, television, documentary, streaming, and other productions. Through an integrated study of screenwriting, directing, producing, cinematography, editing, sound, and professional development, students will build the creative and technical knowledge needed to lead projects from concept through delivery. Students will work with industry-standard tools, including Final Draft, Movie Magic Budgeting and Scheduling, Avid Media Composer, DaVinci Resolve, and Pro Tools, as well as AI-assisted tools such as Adobe Firefly, Accentize dxRevive, Claude, and CapCut. They will learn to apply these technologies thoughtfully in support of their individual creative, ethical, and production judgment.

Students will master film production concepts through project-based learning in a program that authentically mirrors the professional filmmaking environment. Students will also be trained on current filmmaking technologies and will learn how to utilize academic research methodologies in their work. Graduates of the program will be equipped with a range of technical and creative skills needed for career success in the professional film industry. Students will exit with an advanced body of film work, assembled to professional standards and suitable for presentation to employers, collaborators and clients.

The curriculum will also enhance students' academic research skills and practices across a variety of contexts and course activities. Upon completion of the program, students will have developed their own comprehensive graduate-level portfolio. Students will also build fluency with current film production tools and workflows, including AI-assisted tools applied as a complement to their creative and production judgment.
