Overview

The Computer Science Associate of Science at Full Sail University familiarizes students with the design, development, and implementation of software-based solutions and other software products for the business, entertainment, and consumer markets. The curriculum provides an understanding of programming languages and skills, software-design skills, and various computer science methodologies. Courses offer practical experience in software engineering, systems programming, human-computer interaction, and project management. Students work with integrated development environments such as Visual Studio, VS Code, Android Studio, and Arduino IDE; systems and infrastructure platforms like Linux/Ubuntu and Docker; version control and collaboration tools like GitHub, Git clients, Discord, and Zoom; project management platforms like Jira and Trello; and design and prototyping tools such as Figma and FigJam.

Through an emphasis on critical thinking, problem-solving, software design, and the development process, students will learn to work with emerging technologies and begin to design and develop software solutions that meet industry standards. Students will engage in application creation by participating in various computer science projects throughout the degree program. They will gain the critical-thinking and professional skills necessary for effective software development, preparing them for a broad range of careers across software engineering, computing, and emerging technology fields. As AI-assisted tools become increasingly integrated into software engineering practice, students will foster the AI literacy needed to use them effectively, responsibly, and ethically. Through project-based learning, students will generate a portfolio of basic software applications that showcase their ability to apply software development and collaboration practices to coding challenges, preparing them for continued growth and professional practice in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.

Objective
Associate's Objective  

The goal of the Computer Science Associate of Science degree program is to develop students' coding and production capabilities and equip them to pursue entry-level programming positions in the computer science arena, such as programmer, junior software developer, tool programmer, and quality assurance tester. Computer scientists require a breadth of knowledge and skills to compete in this dynamic industry. Across the curriculum, students will build core technical competencies in programming, data structures and algorithms, and software engineering while advancing their skills in software development and system-level thinking. Students will gain experience designing and implementing software solutions while applying practices such as code reviews. Graduates will be equipped to create their own coding and computer science projects and articulate and deliver these projects through appropriate communication methods. Students will also build fluency with current computer science tools and workflows, including AI-assisted tools that support informed decision-making and professional judgment in software engineering.
